Craftsman 88173
Best two-stage gas snow blower
Pros
- Four-stroke engine is powerful enough to move wet, heavy snowpack
- Extra-large capacity: 24 inches wide and 21 inches high
- Push-button electric start is reliable
Cons
- Heavy machine can be difficult for some users to maneuver
Bottom line
Experts and owners say a blend of performance and user-friendly features make the Craftsman 88173 the best two-stage gas snow blower. Handling is excellent with the 88173's plow-style handles, multiple speeds and one-handed operation. The four-stroke engine and steel auger are burly enough to clear the toughest snow storms. Paul Sikkema with snow blower website MovingSnow.com calls the 88173 a great value because of "the combination of features, durability, service and parts availability."
Ease of use
Compact design is easy to drive and operate. Even though the Craftsman 88173 is a larger snow blower, it earns top scores for handling. Paul Sikkema from MovingSnow.com says the "quick-turn hanging discharge chute is very robust and reliable," with a crank that's accessible while in motion to rotate the chute 180 degrees. The machine starts easily with either the electric start or the pull cord, say users at Sears.com, and one describes the controls as "easily in reach and clearly labeled." Although fairly quiet for a gas snow blower, according to reviews, experts still recommend wearing hearing protection.
Performance
Beefy snow blowing power. The Craftsman 88173 is the largest snow blower in our report, sporting a 208 cc four-stroke engine powerful enough to tear through berms packed by a snowplow. The 88173 is fast, efficient and removes snow down to the pavement, according to a leading consumer organization, though it doesn't throw snow quite as far as some. "This machine works very well, even in wet heavy snow," says one owner at Sears.com. Sikkema says this compact two-stage snow blower has "way more power than you will ever need." He praises the throttle control, which allows users to idle the engine.
Durability
Quality machine at a good price. Costing less than $700, reviewers say the Craftsman 88173 is a great value. At Sears.com, one owner calls it the "best snow blower in this price range." At MovingSnow.com, Paul Sikkema names it one of the best values partially because of Craftsman's "service and parts availability." Few owners mention how long the 88173 lasts, but many call it durable and well-built and say Craftsman provides excellent customer support. The 88173's limited two-year warranty is typical for snow blowers but is shorter than warranties from Toro. Waterproof Cameras Reviewed!
Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS5
Best waterproof camera with Wi-Fi
Pros
- Some manual exposure controls
- Full-featured GPS
- Strong battery life
- Underwater housing down to 150 feet
Cons
- Weak flash
- Overly complex Wi-Fi setup
Bottom line
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS5 is a decided favorite among reviewers of waterproof cameras for its tough body and extensive feature set. The DMC-TS5 replaces the highly reviewed DMC-TS3 and "can take even more of a beating than its predecessor." With good quality images, plus Wi-Fi and GPS along with Near Field Communication, the DMC-TS5 also offers good video modes. This is a strong, all-round camera that's comfortable to use.
Ease of use
Straightforward operation. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS5 has the rectangular shape of many of its competitors, with the lens in the top-left corner. You need to be careful not to cover the lens with your index finger when shooting. The camera body is made of colorful (orange, anyone?) metal, and the large LCD panel on the rear is either "... one of the best LCDs in the compact camera world" or not as good as that on the Olympus Tough TG-2 or the Canon PowerShot D20. Although the TS5's controls are well-laid out, some testers found them difficult to use underwater. But the TS5 does have a unique Display button that lets users easily toggle through display settings. The menu system is user-friendly and presents no problems.
Performance
Good all-round performance and speed. Reviewers report that the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS5 rarely disappoints in its performance and picture quality. The photo quality is good, though, as with most waterproof cameras, you can see flaws if the pictures are viewed at 100 percent. The land photos are crisp and balanced, while the underwater images don't have the bluish tinge that's all too common with cameras in this class. Using the preset underwater modes, however, results in fairly flat images that have muted colors. Video quality is acceptable for a compact camera, and the TS5 is one of a few cameras that records full HD 1080p video at 60 frames per second. The camera is fast, starting up in less than a second and focusing very quickly in good light. The battery lasts for a well-above-average 330 shots.
Durability
Metal body for ruggedness. The almost entirely metal body of the DMC-TS5 inspires confidence in its ruggedness as soon as you pick it up. It can safely go down to 44 feet underwater, but with the optional underwater housing case, you can extend this to 150 feet. As with many other rugged cameras, the DMC-TS5 is shockproof from 6.5 feet, pressure-resistant to 220 pounds and freezeproof to 14 degrees Fahrenheit.
Features
Fully featured, including NFC. The feature set on the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS5 is "... about as full-featured as you'll get on a rugged camera," says one reviewer, and others agree that the TS5's features are impressive. The GPS facility is quite extensive, with quick link-up to the GPS signal, a database of landmarks and a compass. The Wi-Fi is also elaborate, though it can be frustrating as you need to enter passwords when logging on to a protected network. As well as uploading your images and videos, you can send them to DNLA-compatible TVs or your PC. You can also remotely control your camera from your smartphone. Near Field Communication (NFC) is also provided. Videographers can shoot in HD or MPEG-4 formats. An optional waterproof case takes this camera down to 150 feet. Generac GP5500
Best home portable generator
Pros
- Very powerful
- Easy start engine
- User-friendly design
- Convenient to maintain
Cons
- Noisy
- Complaints about fuel leaks; poor customer support
Bottom line
The Generac GP5500 can power most appliances and lights in a medium-size home, supplying up to 6,875 watts through four covered outlets and a heavy-duty twist-lock outlet for a 220-volt appliance. Owners say it's easy to use, with a reliable pull-cord starter, fuel gauge and oil dipstick. Engine noise is average for this size of generator, though some say it seems pretty loud. The 7.2-gallon tank runs up to 14 hours, according to professionals.
Features
Convenient features. The 5,500-watt Generac GP5500 offers peak power of up to 6,875 watts, which is sufficient backup power for most homeowners. The user-friendly design, which includes a fuel shut-off valve and low-oil level shutdown, gets 4.5 stars from Popular Mechanics tester Joseph Truini, partly because it's so easy to maintain. "Look! A dipstick and a large oil-fill opening," Truini says. "Every generator should have them." Popular Mechanics also praises the Generac's "thick vibration dampeners, a heavy frame and a comfortable fold up handle." The CARB-compliant version -- the 5945 -- features four ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) 5-20R outlets to protect against electrocution in wet conditions.
Performance
Powers an average-sized home. "With ease, it runs my refrigerator, a handful of lights, TV, cable box, modem, space heater and an occasional microwave use," says an owner at HomeDepot.com about the Generac GP5500, noting, "It was averaging 12 hours of run time before needing to be refueled for the 96 straight hours of use before our power came back." This Generac doesn't include an electric start, but users say the GP5500 reliably starts in one or two pulls of the cord. With automatic voltage regulation, the power is smooth enough to safely operate a laptop computer, according to Popular Mechanics, though they note that the GP5500's voltage isn't as steady as some.
Ease of use
Easy to operate and maintain. Reviews say assembling and learning how to use the Generac GP5500 is pretty straightforward. It "worked flawlessly right out of the box," says one user at ElectricGeneratorsDirect.com. At Generac.com, an owner says with the "ease of operation, efficiency of the engine and simple maintenance, it all adds up to a quality product." In their five-generator comparison test, Popular Mechanics says the GP5500's 85 decibels is just under their average reading. Owners report some durability problems -- most frequently with fuel leaks -- though these aren't consistent issues. Generac includes a two-year limited warranty for consumers, though a few owners have a difficult time with warranty service. Also for Direct Access to Brand Name Products&Services like this Visit our Trusted Partners at http://ebuys-onlineproducts-services.weebly.com

Exterior Paint: Reviewed!
Sherwin-Williams Duration
Best exterior paint
Pros
- Excellent long-term durability
- Lifetime warranty
- Great coverage
- Low-VOC paint even with colorants
Cons
- Not mildew- or dirt-resistant
Bottom line
Sherwin-Williams Duration is the most recommended exterior paint we've found, earning praise from experts, professional contractors and amateur painters alike. User reviews say it's easy to apply and coverage is great -- and it looks awesome once it's on the wall. It earns top marks for long-term durability in comprehensive independent tests. While it's pricey, most say it can save you money in the long run, as it typically requires fewer coats than cheaper paints.
Performance
Easy on the walls, easy on the eyes. Sherwin-Williams Duration is a top performer, judging from reviews. Professional painters and contractors rave about its coverage, and many say it provides a thick coat that looks great on the outside. It glides on easily, judging from consumer opinions, and dries faster than many paints. Sherwin-Williams claims the paint is self-priming and has the ability to get the job done in just one coat. Professionals who typically recommend applying two coats in any situation for good measure say a second coat was unnecessary. Duration falls below both the federal limits and California's state limits on the levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) allowed in exterior paint -- though it doesn't meet the limits of some regions of California, which require less than 50 grams per liter. It's available in satin, semi-gloss and flat finishes.
Maintenance/durability
Long-lasting finish. Sherwin-Williams Duration exterior paint is very durable and retains a quality finish after the equivalent of nine years of simulated weathering in one independent lab test. The same test concludes that it does a good job of resisting cracks and color change, and experienced owners agree. Duration earns high marks from user reviews at Sherwin-Williams.com, where most laud its ability to withstand weathering over the years; many say it still looks great after five- and even nine-year periods. The biggest caveat we spotted is that Duration doesn't resist mildew and dirt as well as some other brands. Its premium price tag is a concern to some, but most experienced painters say it's worth it and that you'll spend twice as much in the long run if using a cheaper paint. Duration includes a lifetime warranty in case of peeling or blistering (not caused by improper application), though this doesn't cover labor costs. Also for Direct Access to Brand Name Products&Services like this Visit our Trusted Partners at http://ebuys-onlineproducts-services.weebly.com

Midland GXT1000VP4
Best walkie-talkie
Pros
- Great sound quality
- Good range
- Useful features
- Easy to use
- Sturdy build
Cons
- Some durability problems
Bottom line
The Midland GXT1000VP4 gets more consistently positive ratings than any other walkie-talkie we've seen. Most reviewers agree that it delivers crystal-clear sound, even in dense forests or among tall city buildings. They also say its build is sturdy and splash-proof, and it combines a wealth of features with reasonably intuitive controls. However, we saw a few complaints about durability problems, mostly focused on the battery pack and charger.
Range
Great sound quality. As is typical for two-way radios, the Midland GXT1000VP4 falls far short of its advertised 36-mile maximum range. The reviews at user sites give wildly differing estimates of the actual range; one owner could send across 30 miles of desert, while another couldn't span even one city block. The average estimate appears to be at least a mile in the city or suburbs and several miles in open country. Users say the radio delivers a crystal clear signal when it is in range, even in thick brush or among city buildings. A prolific reviewer at TwoWayRadioForum.com, known as "jwilkers," reports getting a clear signal with "ZERO noise" in a crowded hotel.
Features
More than a basic radio. Both professionals and users appreciate the Midland radio's features. Hunters who need to avoid loud noises particularly appreciate the whisper mode, which transmits hushed speech clearly, and the vibrate alert for silent calls. Users of all kinds like the NOAA weather radio and weather alerts, which warn you of severe weather in your area. A few reviewers think that this radio almost has too many features, but most still find it reasonably easy to use -- at least once you've read through the manual. Midland also offers this radio in a camouflage finish, the Midland GXT1050VP4. It comes with five extra alert tones that double as animal calls, but aside from that, the two models are identical. Ignore the claim of 50 channels; this is a standard 22-channel radio with "extra channels" being nothing more than regular channels with a pre-set and non changeable privacy code.
Durability
Sturdy, but not always reliable. Most reviewers describe the construction of the Midland GXT1000VP4 as very sturdy. Although it's advertised as waterproof, reviewers say "weatherproof" would be more accurate: It can stand up to light rain or splashing water, but not submersion. The walkie-talkie's weakest point appears to be the rechargeable battery. While most reviewers say the battery life is good (at least eight hours in tests by "jwilkers"), we see quite a few complaints about faulty battery packs that are weak, won't hold a charge or randomly stop working. Midland backs the radio with a three-year warranty, but an Amazon.com reviewer warns that the battery pack and charger are not covered. Also for Direct Access to Brand Name Products&Services like this Visit our Trusted Partners at http://ebuys-onlineproducts-services.weebly.com

Elliptical Trainers Reviewed!
Sole E95
Best elliptical trainer
Pros
- Motor-adjust incline ramp
- Heavy flywheel
- Adjustable foot pedals
- Excellent customer service
Cons
- Large footprint
- Occasional squeaks, clicks
Bottom line
The Sole E95 is rich in features where it counts, but doesn't skimp on build quality. A heavy flywheel, sturdy frame, good warranty and excellent customer service all combine to make this one of the best ellipticals on the market. Top features include a motor-adjust incline ramp, two heart-rate interactive programs and adjustable foot pedals.
Performance
Smooth operator. Fred Waters of Fitness-Equipment-Source.com tests the E95 at Sole headquarters and writes that the heavy flywheel "provides a more natural and smooth elliptical stride." Most users agree that the E95 is solid and stable, and that its quiet eddy-current braking system is smooth and reliable. Its stride length adjusts between 20 and 22 inches, depending on where you've positioned the motor-adjust incline ramp (which adjusts between 0 and 40 degrees of slope). Program options include 6 preset workouts, two custom workouts and two heart-rate control workouts for use with the included chest-strap heart-rate monitor.
Ease of use
It has everything. Plan on spending a couple of hours putting the Sole E95 together, but that will be your only hassle. The editors of Treadmillor.com praise this elliptical for several user-friendly features, including its 9-inch LCD console (which tilts for easier viewing) and cushioned footpads. Said footpads are angled at a 2-degree inward slant to reduce stress on your joints, and can be further adjusted to best suit the way your body moves. Resistance and incline can both be controlled from the console or via handgrip controls. The E95 also has a built-in sound system and fan, which users describe as merely adequate.
Durability
Solid use up to 400 pounds. The Sole E95 is rated for users up to 400 pounds, and several Amazon.com reviewers post to say they use it frequently -- sometimes multiple times a day -- without a problem. One eBay reviewer writes that the E95 "is very heavy, sturdy, (and) does not wobble even for the over 200 pound users in my family." The E95 weighs 215 pounds when fully assembled, which contributes to its smooth, stable ride. The biggest complaint we found from reviewers was about a persistent squeaking around the foot rails, although it's often resolved by lubricating the foot rails.
Customer service
Efficient in-home repair service. Those who own the Sole E95 have only good things to say about the company's customer service. In one case, an Amazon.com user and his wife used their Sole E95 every day for four years; when the incline motor stopped working and couldn't be repaired, Sole shipped him a brand-new, updated E95 completely free of charge. (The E95's frame has a lifetime warranty. The parts and electronics are covered for five years, and labor is covered for two years.) The company also provides a 30-day money-back guarantee, although returns may be subject to a restocking fee. Car Batteries: Reviewed!
DieHard Advanced Gold 50778
Best car battery
Pros
- Outperforms all other batteries in expert testing
- Outstanding in both cold and heat
- Strong warranty
Cons
- Not all sizes perform well
- Extra charge for installation
Bottom line
Rated the very best car battery in one top test, the DieHard Advanced Gold 50778 delivers outstanding performance whether it's sweltering or freezing outside; both are typically murder on batteries. But watch out: Some sizes of this car battery don't perform as well in tests.
Performance
Unbeatable performance in most sizes. Nothing beats the DieHard Advanced Gold 50778. It earns the highest possible scores in every test by a leading source: cold-weather cranking, hot-weather endurance and reserve capacity, or how long it will run with the engine off (such as if you accidentally leave your lights on). This is a Group 78 size made to fit large Chrysler and GM vehicles.
The Group 34 version -- labeled 50734 -- does just as well in tests, and the Group 94 version gets good owner reviews at Sears.com. However, the Group 48 size conked out halfway through the heat test and was rated the very worst battery in that evaluation.
Dependability and warranty
Rugged design, strong warranty. This is an absorbed glass mat battery, which "typically makes for a more rugged and longer-lasting battery than a conventional battery," ConsumerReports.org says. It's a sealed, maintenance-free design, so you won't have to top off the water. The DieHard Advanced Gold 50778 carries a three-year warranty: If it won't hold a charge during that time, Sears will replace it. After that, there's a 100-month prorated warranty, so you'll get a credit toward the purchase of a new DieHard battery if yours fails.
Value
Installation charge. The good news is, Sears charges $165 for this battery but you'll get a $33 discount if you trade in your old battery. The bad news is Sears charges $10 extra for battery installation, according to Sears.com. Plenty of other stores -- including Walmart, auto-parts chains and some garages -- will install your battery for free if you buy it from them.
For about half the price, the Kirkland Signature 12866 (Est. $85) performs almost identically in tests and has the same warranty. However, it's sold only at Costco, where you need a paid membership and they don't install batteries. Also for Direct Access to Brand Name Products&Services like this Visit our Trusted Partners at http://ebuys-onlineproducts-services.weebly.com

Bluetooth Headsets Reviewed!
Aliph Jawbone Era (2014)
Best Bluetooth headset
Pros
- Stylish and discreet design
- Solid call quality
- Works with Siri and Google Now
Cons
- Short battery life
Bottom line
The Aliph Jawbone Era (2014) is the smallest and most stylish Bluetooth headset available. It builds on the legacy of the original Jawbone Era (2011) and the Jawbone Icon by providing good sound quality and a powerful app, along with a new voice interface that works with Siri on iPhones and Google Now on Android devices. At less than a quarter ounce, the Era 2014 is for people who want to discreetly and stylishly use a headset.
Sound quality
Latest NoiseAssassin software.Reports indicate that, although the sound quality of the latest version of the Aliph Jawbone Era isn't the best there is, it's still "very solid" and a top performer. The audio quality is clean with natural sounds and the music playback has "a bit more oomph on the low end." The noise cancellation is excellent, with the Era 2014 using Noise Assassin 4.0, a continuation of the software introduced in the Jawbone Icon and the original Era. One tester used the Era 2014 in a parking lot in between a municipal airport and an active recycling plant, and callers couldn't tell that he wasn't calling from inside his car. Wind buffeting was a problem in some tests though.
Comfort
The smallest Bluetooth headset. The latest version of the Aliph Jawbone Era continues its predecessor's reign as the smallest Bluetooth headset. It weighs just 0.21 ounces and fits unobtrusively in the ear. There's only one way to place the earbuds in your ear and reviewers found the fit to be secure. If you wear the headset in your left ear, however, you won't have a choice of earbuds, with only a medium size one included with the headset, compared to a choice of three sizes designed to fit the right ear.
Usability
Just one button. The Aliph Jawbone Era (2014) has one button that does it all -- answer or end a call, voice dial, control music, volume control, and checking the battery status. This draws mixed reviews, especially with the lack of a dedicated volume control. As an alternative, Era 2014 users can interact with Siri on their iPhones or Google Now on their Android phones and all the usual commands, such as having emails read or getting driving directions, are available. Setup is very easy with automatic pairing on first use. The Jawbone Era has the app that provides a selection of voices and gets two new features: a headset finder function and a calendar app. However, the new Era lacks the accelerometer of the original so you can't issue commands through gestures anymore. The headset comes with a standard micro USB charging cable. An optional charging cradle, about the size of a key fob, also has a built-in battery that adds another six hours of charge. Also for Direct Access to Brand Name Products&Services like this one Visit our Trusted Partners at http://ebuys-onlineproducts-services.weebly.com

Lancome Definicils High Definition Mascara
Best lengthening mascara
Pros
- Lengthens lashes
- Defines/separates lashes
- Minimal clumping
- Long-wearing formula
Cons
- Expensive
- Wetter/runnier than most during application Multiple reviewers say Lancome Definicils High Definition Mascara lives up to its claims, producing lovely, long, defined lashes. This mascara comes with a long, thin applicator brush that reviewers say is effective and easy to use; its separated bristles coat and lengthen each individual lash. One drawback: This mascara's formula is a bit runny, making it easy to smudge before it dries. Once it does, however, it lasts all day without flaking, say users at MakeupAlley.com and TotalBeauty.com. If you prefer a budget-friendly mascara, reviewers say Maybelline Full 'n Soft mascara (*Est. $7) is an excellent choice. Lancome Definicils High Definition Mascara is fragrance-free and comes in five shades: black, brown, deep black, deep brown and navy.
We found the most thorough reviews of Lancome Definicils High Definition Mascara at Beautypedia.com, Splendora.com and ConsumerReports.org, where it is tested, rated and compared to several other mascaras. User reviews at MakeupAlley.com and TotalBeauty.com are not as detailed, but do provide common consensus about the popularity of this and other mascaras. Action Cameras Reviewed!
GoPro HD Hero3+ Black Edition
Best action camera
Pros
- Superior video quality
- Lots of shooting options
- Wide variety of mounts
- Sturdy build
Cons
- So-so battery life
- May produce blurry distance shots
Bottom line
Reviewers consistently agree that the GoPro HD Hero3+ Black Edition simply offers the best video performance it's possible to get from an action camera. It's versatile, too, with lots of shooting and mounting options, and its sturdy construction stands up to all sorts of abuse. However, many reviewers add that not every user really needs the best quality money can buy. For casual use, a lower-priced camera will probably offer better value.
Ease of use
Fully loaded tool kit. One thing reviewers love about the Hero3+ is its wide array of mounting options for everything from surfboards to roll bars. Only two mounts actually come with the camera, however; others are sold as extras. Like most action cams, the Hero3+ doesn't include a viewscreen, but the free GoPro app lets you use your smartphone as a viewfinder. There's also a wireless remote, which has the same menus and buttons found on the camera itself, but CNET says it's a hassle to use for all but the most basic functions; the smartphone app is much more user-friendly.
Performance
Top-notch video quality. What really sets the Hero3+ Black Edition apart from the competition is its video quality. In a head-to-head test of action cameras at MTBR.com, footage from the Hero3+ Black "is sharper, has great color, and holds subtle detail in the highlights and shadows." Audio quality and still images are also good, though not outstanding. Some users complain that distance shots on the Hero3+ look extremely fuzzy, but this appears to be due to a bug that affects only certain cameras (which GoPro will replace). The Hero3+ Black also offers a huge range of options for resolution, frame rate and field of vision. Its only weak point is its so-so battery life (around 2 hours).
Design
Small but sturdy. In user reviews, one feature users really like about the Hero3+ is its compact, lightweight form. The plastic housing is also smaller and lighter than that of past versions, yet Paul Davies of The Telegraph describes it as "nigh on indestructible." The same applies to the mounts; TheWirecutter.com's Brent Rose says they're "notoriously tough," standing up to giant waves and even surviving car crashes. The Hero3+ is waterproof up to 131 feet deep. Compared to other action cameras, the Hero3+ is surprisingly boxy in shape, but users don't appear to find that a drawback. It can even be a plus, since it lets the camera stand on its own without a tripod. Sunless Tanners Reviewed!
St. Tropez Self-Tan Bronzing Mousse
Best sunless tanner
Pros
- Natural color
- Easy to apply
- Doesn't smell as bad as other tanners
- Dries quickly
Cons
- Tint can look splotchy if not washed off
- Can feel sticky
Bottom line
If you are looking for a quick-drying, instant sunless tanner, St. Tropez Bronzing Mousse fits the bill without the odor typical of such products. Users say the included mitt and tinted formula make it easy to apply, plus it offers ultra-natural color and dries in just minutes. However, it's best applied at night and washed off in the morning. One expert suggests the ingredients might be damaging to skin, but we didn't see this in user reviews.
Performance
Quick-drying formula with natural-looking results. St. Tropez Self-Tan Bronzing Mousse is a tinted, instant self-tanner. Reviewers and owners alike praise it for the natural tint it imparts. One expert tells Harper's Bazaar that it has an olive base that prevents it from looking orange, like some competitors. The product dries in less than five minutes, but develops over the course of about three to four hours, experts say. The tint gives the appearance of an instant tan, but some reviewers at Sephora.com say the tint can look blotchy until it's rinsed off. For this reason, several users suggest applying the formula in the evening before bed and rinsing it off in the morning.
Ease of use
Tinted formula makes for easy application. Most instant sunless tanners have a tendency to look blotchy or streaky when applied, but St. Tropez Self-Tan Bronzing Mousse makes application easier than most. Reviewers love the tinted formula, which allows them to see where the mousse has already been applied. A few point out that it can dry too quickly, but most either don't have this problem, or don't find that it yields poor results. The 8-ounce size comes with a free applicator mitt, which reviewers love to use for easy application.
Feel and smell
Drying and stickiness drag down an otherwise inoffensive formula. St. Tropez Self-Tan Bronzing Mousse is one of few formulas we found that has a scent users don't consider unpleasant. However, expert Paula Begoun says the formula is laden with several fragrance chemicals that can dry out skin and cause damage to collagen. We didn't see many complaints about irritation, but some users do note the formula can feel a bit sticky. Like all sunless tanners, it relies on dihydroxyacetone (DHA) to bronze skin, but also contains glycerin and aloe for added moisture. Web Browsers Reviewed!
Firefox
Best customizable browser
Pros
- Highly customizable
- Simple design
- Strong privacy settings
Cons
- Slower than leading competitors
- Incompatible with Windows 8 touch-screen OS
Bottom line
Firefox is the best customizable browser thanks to its stellar options (with a dizzying array of features), speed, privacy and security. Firefox offers multiple search engines that are easy to use, great ways to organize tabs and a simple, easy-to-use interface. It isn't the fastest browser on the market, but is a solid choice for consumers whether they're using default settings or creating their own personalized browsing experience.
Performance
Fast, customizable and easy to use. While Firefox faces stiff competition from Google Chrome -- which has significantly boosted its features without compromising speed -- Mozilla's browser can be whatever you want it to be: A secure search engine; a private browser; a shopping center; a place to easily manage your tabs and research; a central hub for your browsing that can be used across devices. The options are endless. This is made possible thanks to Firefox's extensive add-ons (about 3.7 billion add-on and extension downloads and counting), customizable features and easy-to-access privacy settings. Is it the fastest? No. But this simply designed browser is by far the easiest to customize, and it offers privacy, security and browsing at a decent speed.
Features
Thousands of add-ons create a personalized browser. Firefox continues to excel at offering add-ons that help users manage everything from tabs to security to privacy, making it the leader in creating a customized browser. (Among Firefox's most popular add-ons is the ad-blocker app.) Newer features include a built-in PDF viewer (but no built-in Flash) and the ability to get easy notifications from social networks in the browser via its Social API tool (the downside: Facebook is no longer supporting it.) Firefox has auto updates, including for its browser extensions, syncing between devices (Chrome's is easier, but requires a Google sign-in) and Firefox's mobile app is fast and laden with features, according to a CNET test review. Windows RT (for tablets) and "Metro" touch-screen Windows 8 users can't use it, however; not surprisingly, Microsoft's Internet Explorer is the best bet for compatibility with Windows 8 desktop.
Privacy and Security
Your privacy is a priority. Mozilla's Firefox has long been at the forefront of privacy settings and continues to offer separate address and search bars -- a must for privacy mavens who don't want the address bar making predictions based on previous searches. Firefox's address bar can work as a search bar (if you so choose) but it offers multiple, tailored search providers (like Amazon or eBay, making shopping easier.) Its privacy settings are easy to find (unlike its main competitor, Chrome) and its Lightbeam tool lets you see who is tracking your browsing. In one informal poll by Naked Security, Firefox ranked as the top browser for trustworthiness, but it performed very poorly in anti-malware lab tests, catching just 4 percent of threats. Breast Pumps: Reviewed!
Medela Harmony
Best manual breast pump
Pros
- Comfortable
- Easy to use, clean
- Two-step expression system
- Accessories readily available
Cons
- Not suitable for heavy pumping
- Some durability complaints
Bottom Line
Experts and owners say the Medela Harmony's two-step expression system mimics the actions of a nursing baby, which helps trigger the milk letdown reflex and produces good volume in a relatively short period. Users call the pump very simple to use in all phases of operation.
Performance
Great volume and efficiency. The Medela Harmony manual breast pump is universally acclaimed as the one to have if all you need is to occasionally ease engorgement or supplement breast-feeding. Its two-phase manual expression technology more closely mimics the action of a nursing baby, and owners say it's great at enhancing milk letdown and effective pumping. Those who have used several different manual breast pumps say this one provides a higher volume of milk pumped in a shorter period than comparable models.
The only complaints about the Harmony come from frequent pumpers who say it doesn't pump quickly enough, but this model isn't targeted to such users; they would be better served by an electric pump. Having said that, a number of owners say they prefer the Harmony to their electric pumps because it's more comfortable and quiet, and nearly as efficient.
Moms say the Medela Harmony is comfortable to use and doesn't cause soreness or discomfort, but they add that it's important to use the correct size flanges. Women with smaller or larger breasts or nipples may need larger or smaller flanges than the 24 mm size that comes standard with the breast pump.
A few users protest about a loss of suction due to the o-ring on the handle falling off or cracking; replacing it requires purchasing the entire handle assembly, which costs nearly as much as a new pump. A couple of moms say the handle assembly broke after a few weeks. If the pump is still under warranty or even close, owners say Medela is good about sending replacement parts.
Ease Of Use
A winner. Experts say the Medela Harmony is easy to clean and has fewer parts to wash than comparable manual breast pumps. It's partially dishwasher safe, and the instructions explain which parts can go in the top rack of the dishwasher and which need to be washed by hand.
At just 1 pound, the Harmony is lightweight and highly portable, and moms say its one-handed action won't tire out your hands when pumping. Its pivoting handle makes it easier to find a comfortable angle, and the pump is very easy to assemble and dissemble, they add. Moms also like that Medela Harmony parts and accessories are often available at their local supermarket or drug store rather than just online. The basic set includes a 5-ounce bottle with lid and stand. Unlike electric pumps, there's no included carrying case or cooling system, but storage/feeding bottles and a labeling system are available as optional accessories.
Moms who are often on the road give the Medela Harmony rave reviews. Even those who pump frequently and use electric pumps say they prefer the Harmony because it's easy to toss into luggage or an overnight bag. A number of them like being able to use it when they're a passenger on car trips so they don't have to stop and nurse.
Customer Service
Top-of-the-line service. The Medela Harmony comes with a 30-day limited warranty. Medela has a sterling reputation for customer service, and a number of reviews praise the company's response long after the 30-day warranty period passed. Medela provides a high level of support for breastfeeding moms, with helpful representatives talking a number of users through pumping issues. Online support from a certified lactation consultant is also available. Mac Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation
Best powder foundation makeup
Pros
- Large color selection
- Silky texture and application
Cons
- Exacerbates very dry skin
- Can look unnatural with over-application
Bottom line
Many powder foundations leave something to be desired in the way of coverage, but MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation is the exception. For slightly dry to oily skin types, it can be applied lightly for flawless coverage and a matte finish. If over-applied, it can look a bit unnatural or cakey, so beginners may struggle to create a flawless look with this formula. It can accentuate dry areas, so it's not for women with very dry skin.
Performance
Full coverage from a powder foundation. MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation is generally well liked by those with oily or combination skin because it's able to soak up excess oil and reduce shine. It's a favorite because it comes in a variety of colors and provides excellent medium to full coverage. Beauty expert Paula Begoun says a few shades miss the mark, but most are impressive, fitting a broad range of skin tones. Users agree that Studio Fix is a natural-looking foundation with a great matte finish.
Feel and smell
Smooth powder application, but can look heavy. Begoun says this powder applies like a dream when dry but that wet application can look streaky. While she says it works for anyone with slightly dry to slightly oily skin, there are several user complaints about Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation exacerbating dry areas. On the other hand, many with oily skin love it. One caveat that users mention is that it can look unnatural when over-applied -- which is easy to do. A handful of reviewers say the formula can settle into pores or fine lines, but most say it leaves a flawless finish. Streaming Music Services Reviewed!
MOG
Best streaming music service
Pros
- Broad music catalog
- Best mobile apps
- Very polished interface
- Highest sound quality
- Unlimited offline cache in mobile devices
- Innovative radio function
Cons
- Can't integrate users' personal collection into catalog
- Basic social options
- Limited listening in free version Experts find few things to criticize about MOG. The streaming music service carries over 14 million different songs, and the vast majority stream at a best-in-class 320 kbps audio quality, unless your Internet connection is slow. Separate roundups from different publications claim that MOG has the best Android and iPad apps among all the streaming music services -- helped in part by an offline cache feature that's limited only by the size of your phone or tablet's hard drive -- and the clean, polished look of its standard web-based interface wins praise, as well. MOG is one of the few on-demand services that actually receives kudos for its radio function, although experts say it is far more limited than the stations offered by streaming music services with a radio-style focus, such as Slacker Radio (*Est. $4 and up; free version available) . Slacker Radio also offers on-demand music listening.
Critics say there are a few minor nits to pick with MOG, however. The free version places strict listening limits on users, although you can earn more free tunes by sharing songs on social media. Tying in to that, while MOG gives users the ability to post tracks to Facebook and Twitter, it offers little else with a social focus. Experts say that shouldn't matter if you're looking for a straightforward, solitary listening experience, however.
MOG is one of the most-reviewed streaming music services around, with critiques available from several technology websites, including CNET, Gizmodo.com, Laptop Magazine and TechCrunch.com. Audio enthusiast sources such as Sound and Vision magazine, InnerFidelity.com and ComputerAudiophile.com also offer useful reviews. Personal blogger Benjamin Rose contributes a deep and detailed comparison of MOG and Spotify. Sound Bars Reviewed!
Sony HT-CT260
Best sound bar
Pros
- Excellent value
- Built-in Bluetooth support
- Deep, effective bass
Cons
- Treble could be clearer
- Average connectivity
Bottom line
If you're looking for a sound bar that's good at just about everything, the Sony HT-CT260 is the best all-around option. Experts say sound quality is great -- especially for its price -- and that its wireless subwoofer delivers deep, impactful bass. This, combined with useful features such as built-in Bluetooth, make the HT-CT260 an excellent value.
Performance
An all-around solid performer. While the Sony HT-CT260 can't compete with premium-grade sound bars such as the Yamaha YSP-4100(Est. $1,700) , experts say it offers very good performance overall, especially for its class. CNET's Matthew Moskovciak says action films sound lively and full. PCMag.com's Will Greenwald, on the other hand, says sound quality for music is "solid, without excelling in any category." The wireless subwoofer provides deep and powerful bass, and experts praise the system's mid-range performance. Dialogue in movies is clear enough, though high-end frequencies can be a bit muddled at times. As is the case with most sound bars, the Sony HT-CT260 doesn't produce the most convincing simulated surround sound, but experts say it still offers a wide and detailed soundstage for its class.
Design
Hexagonal profile. The Sony HT-CT260 sound bar weighs just 6.1 pounds and is wide enough to sit under a 40-inch HDTV comfortably. It sports an angular, hexagonal design with a matte-black cloth grille and a blue LED light on the front. At 4 inches high, there's a chance it could block a sensor at the bottom of a TV. Fortunately, if it does, the Sony HT-CT260 has a rear-mounted signal repeater that will relay your remote's IR signals. The down-firing subwoofer works wirelessly, though it does need to be plugged into an electric outlet. Experts say syncing the sound bar to the subwoofer is very easy. Connectivity is basic, but adequate: analog audio as well as both optical and coaxial digital audio inputs, but no HDMI ports.
Features
Built-in Bluetooth for mobile devices. The Sony HT-CT260 lets you wirelessly stream audio from smartphones and mobile devices. When streaming music via Bluetooth this way, you can expect the drop in audio quality that's typical of Bluetooth technology, but experts say that this easy-to-use feature is a welcome plus just the same. Dolby and DTS decoding is also built in, though rarely used in most situations. You can adjust subwoofer volume as well as bass and treble levels. CNET's Matthew Moskovciak says the ability to adjust the phantom center-channel volume is a help for those who sometimes have trouble hearing dialogue in movies.
Value
A solid sound bar for a reasonable price. Experts say the Sony HT-CT260 sound bar provides an excellent value. It's not the cheapest sound bar you can buy, and its sound quality falls short of what premium sound bars can deliver. But few competitors in its price class can deliver as good a balance of performance and features. The Yamaha YAS-101 (Est. $250) comes close, but it costs roughly the same and has weaker bass performance. Also for Direct Access to Products Like this Visit our Website at http://ebuys-onlineproducts-services.weebly.com
